Oriental Greenboat Dragon Boat Competition

Shanghai College Oversea Student Dragon Boat Competition will be held on 30th May, 2009 which Fudan University team (composed of 20 athletes, among whom there is one leader, one drummer, and eighteen boatmen) will take an active part in. 

In order to compose this team, International Student Office intends to hold a selection and training competition in Oriental Greenboat on 9th May, 2009. Students who want to take part in the activity should sign up at International Student Office non-degree office(Room106) BEFORE 30th April. No more than 60 students (40 male students and 20 female students) will join it. First come, first served.

Date: 9th May, 2009, Sat.
Set off place: No. 57, Wudong Rd, north gate of Fudan University (near Foreign Student domitory).
Time: 7:30 a.m.
Fee: Fudan University will pay for the ticket, dragon boat rent, transportation, and lunch. after the match, students can take other programs in Oriental Greenboat which are paid by themselves.

Introduction of Dragon Boat:
Dragon boat competition is a custom in Double Fifth Festival, which is held to memorize Quyuan, who died for his country. Many people came to help Qu who drown himself in Miluo River, but failed to find him even up to Dongting Lake. After that, 5th of May becomes a festival to memorize Quyuan. People row dragon boats to drive away fishes for fear of they will eat Qu’s body. Dragon boat competition is popular in southern China.
About the Competition: Shape the boat in a dragon figure. On each boat, there are 20 boatmen and one leader, one playing gong and one drummer. Gong and drum are use to cheer the boatmen up. The competition is divide into male group, female group and combined straight line 500m and 800m.
Rules: Among the 23 boatmen, there are at least 8 female boatmen. The leader, gong person and drummer can be male or female. Athletes that take part in should be able to swim over 100m with their clothes on.

东方绿洲赛龙舟选拔赛

上海市高校外国留学生龙舟赛定于2009年5月30日举行，届时我校将派出一支由20名运动员组成的代表队参加（其中领队1名，鼓手1名，划手18名）。为了组织参赛队，留学生办公室将于2009年5月9日在东方绿洲举办一场赛龙舟的选拔和训练比赛。想参加本次活动的留学生请于即日起到4月30日前往留学生工作处非学历办公室（106室）办理报名手续。名额60人（男生40名，女生20名），额满为止。
日期：2009年5月9日（星期六）
出发上车地点：武东路57号，复旦大学北门（留学生公寓附近）。
出发时间：早上7：30
费用：学校承担东方绿洲门票、龙舟费用、交通费和午餐费。赛后有自由活动时间，留学生可自行游玩东方绿洲其他项目。
赛龙舟介绍：
賽龙舟，是端午节的主要习俗。相传起源于古时楚国人因舍不得贤臣屈原投江死去，许多人划船追赶拯救。他们争先恐后，追至洞庭湖时不见踪迹。之后每年五月五日划龙舟以纪念之。借划龙舟驱散江中之鱼，以免鱼吃掉屈原的身体。竞渡之习，盛行于吴、越、楚。
赛龙舟要求：将舟做成龙型，比赛时，各队龙舟均以锣鼓指挥、助阵。登舟比赛队员为划手20人、舵手、锣手、鼓手各1人。比赛项目分为男子组、女子组和混合组直道竞速500米、800米。
赛龙舟规则：混合项目每队参赛队员（23人）中，最少有8名女划手，舵手、锣手和鼓手性别不限。参加龙舟比赛的运动员应有和衣游泳100米以上的能力
